Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex
The existing WMRC, constructed in 1993 has a total floor area of approximately 106,000 sq. ft. which features: a 3,500 fixed-seat ice area, a multi-function indoor aquatics center, multiple activity rooms and various City administrative and public spaces. The objective of this project is to reconfigure the existing building through renovations and building additions to accommodate additional programming to meet the needs of the community. Improving accessibility, upgrading aging building components, and improving the energy of the building are crucial to the successful completion of this project.
This project is pursuing a LEED Silver ‘shadow’ approach and is targeting minimum energy and green house gas efficiency improvements beyond the Ontario Building Code. Furthermore, the building has been design as a ‘photovoltaic-ready’ facility.
