Conestoga College Indigenous Classrooms Renovation
This project involved the renovation of two indigenous classrooms – one at Conestoga College’s Doon Campus and the other at their Skilled Trades Campus. CSL was hired as the Construction Manager to oversee all aspects of the renovation. The primary aim was to create a versatile flex space that could accommodate both Indigenous studies and the broader needs of the general student body. The design concept focused on integrating natural elements to foster a serene and inspiring learning environment.
Key features of the renovation included:
• Emphasis on natural elements such as moss walls and natural wood finishes to create a harmonious connection with nature.
• Incorporation of a medicine wheel-inspired custom ceiling woodwork, reflecting Indigenous cultural significance and teachings.
• A commitment to showcasing future artwork by local Indigenous artists, further enriching the cultural and visual appeal of the space.
• The design allows for flexible use, supporting a variety of academic and community activities.
This thoughtfully crafted space stands as a testament to the blend of cultural respect, innovative design, and functional versatility, making it a significant addition to both campuses.
