With the ever-changing nature of the construction industry and the different risks associated with every project, adapting to our work environment is the only way to ensure our team returns home safe at the end of every day. At CSL, this is not just a written set of policies and procedures that are to be followed – it is an attitude, a culture that every member of our team is proud to be a part of.
Our safety department is managed by Rob Radmore, who reports directly to the CEO. Through his leadership, CSL offers constant continuing education to both our field and office staff to ensure that we are keeping up with the evolving safety requirements of our industry. Detailed site audits are completed alongside the Superintendents to review the current site conditions, and to advise on infractions, legislation, and safe work practices.
Collaborative Structures Limited is committed to the health and safety of its employees and all personnel working with CSL. To support this commitment, we have developed an in-depth health and safety program to maintain a safe and healthy environment for everyone on our team – including employees, clients, consultants, subtrades, and suppliers. Safety is an attitude that is at the forefront of every decision we make.
Rob Radmore, Health & Safety Manager
Plain and simple – our employees are our number one asset and priority above all else. Making sure everyone returns home to family and friends at the end of every day is the single most important aspect of what we do – and it is everyone’s responsibility to do their part. It starts with Management providing the vision, tools, and training necessary for the whole team.
A requirement of entering a CSL construction site is participating in a site-specific safety orientation – identifying the governing laws and CSL’s policies that are to be abided by, site-specific risks, locations of important safety information, and contacts. Upon completion of the orientation, participants sign that they acknowledge our requirements, and are given a “Safety-Checked” sticker for their hard hats, specific to the particular project to certify their completion of the program.
Daily Tailgate meetings are performed by all of CSL’s staff, identifying the potential risks associated with the tasks of the day. This is also completed by each trade on a CSL site, and copies are provided to our site office for record.
Along with Tailgates, each piece of equipment is inspected in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements, and documented accordingly.
As a commitment to our safe work environment, Collaborative Structures is a COR certified company as of October 1st, 2020. COR requires the firm to not only meet the mandates for initial certification but to maintain the Health & Safety Management program on a constant basis – this is confirmed with a yearly audit of the company by IHSA.
The Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is nationally trademarked and endorsed by participating members of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) of which the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) is a member. It provides employers with an effective tool to assess their health and safety management system.
COR™ is aimed at driving positive workplace behaviour and practices, that lead to improved performance. It is currently being used across Canada and is a prequalification requirement for many contractors working in and out of the province and on public and/or private-sector projects.
As a member of the League of Champions, CSL has committed to upholding the values within the League’s Charter. Through education and awareness, we not only instill the points of the Charter in everything we do as a company, but we also strive to educate all we come in contact with and aspire to achieve greatness in our safety culture.
